What is Kybella?
Kybella is a nonsurgical injectable technique used to target the fat beneath the chin. The process uses a series of deoxycholic acid injections to target the fat cells in this area. No incisions are required, and the downtime is minimal in most cases.
The best candidate is an adult 18 years or older with moderate to severe fat beneath the chin. You might not be a good candidate if you have had or are planning to have facial surgery, if you have trouble swallowing, are pregnant or nursing, or have an infection or medical condition in or near the planned injection site.
A 2015 consumer survey done by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) found that 67 percent of individuals are bothered by excess fat under the chin or neck. Kybella is currently the only FDA-approved injectable to treat the appearance of a double chin.
Eliminate Your Double Chin with Kybella
Kybella is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment that can reduce the appearance of submental fulless, also known as a double chin. This “fat-melting” medication offers an excellent non-surgical alternative to eliminate fat without the downtime and risk associated with surgery.
WHAT ARE THE MAIN BENEFITS OF KYBELLA?
- PERMANENT reduction of fat without surgery
- Treatment takes less than 15 minutes and is performed in the office
- Minimal downtime compared to surgical liposuction
- The most common side effects are short-term swelling, bruising, tenderness, and numbness.
- No scarring or other reported permanent adverse effects with Kybella.
HOW DOES KYBELLA WORK?
Kybella’s active ingredient is deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring molecule already present in the body. This medication is administered by small injections into the treatment area. Injection of this medication aids in the breakdown and absorption of fat. Kybella targets and destroys the fat cells. Once they are destroyed, these cells cannot store or accumulate fat again.
DOES IT HURT?
Our office enhances the patient treatment experience by taking many steps to minimize patient discomfort. Our specially formulated topical numbing cream can be applied prior to treatment. Additionally, a local anesthetic may be injected to numb the area.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Treatment lasts approximately 30 minutes. Anesthetic is applied to the site and the treatment area is outlined. Small injections are administered to this area. The smallest needles are used for decreasing any discomfort. Patients may experience some side effects after treatment including swelling, bruising, redness, or numbness.
Most patients need two to four Kybella treatments to see a significant change in their chin profile. Each treatment is delivered 1-2 months apart. Results may vary and up to six treatments may be administered. The results are considered permanent because the fat cells are destroyed. You may be prone to developing new fat cells, so the longevity of the results is dependent upon your ability to maintain a healthy lifestyle and ideal weight.
